About Us

The Sonics Legends Fund was created to assist former players in need of financial assistance, connecting them with caring support and critical resources like medical care and housing.

The Sonics Legends Fund has its roots in a similar fund for former Seattle Seahawks players. The creation of the fund was initiated by Sandy Gregory, now a Sonics Legends Fund advisor. Sandy was with the Seahawks for over 40 years. She suggested one day that portions of the money collected from Seahawks’ player fines could benefit former players for medical care and other needs.

Sandy and Sonics legend Gus Williams have been friends since Sandy’s early days working in the USC Sports Information Office, where she got to know Gus, then a freshman on the basketball team. When she found out about Gus’ medical issues in February 2020 and Gus’ need for care, the idea sprouted to follow the plan she helped create for Seattle’s NFL team. The Sonics Legends Fund was hatched.
